How many planets are in our Solar System?

There are eight planets in our solar system. This count excludes Pluto, which was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union in 2006. The eight planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These planets are distinguished by their relatively large size, orbits around the Sun, and being predominantly composed of gases and solid materials.
