McDonald's was founded in the year 1955 because it was in that year that Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman, opened the first McDonald's restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois. Kroc had noticed the exceptional efficiency and popularity of the McDonald's brother's original San Bernardino, California restaurant, and he saw the potential for its expansion across the country. Hence, in 1955 Kroc founded the fast-food chain we now know as McDonald's, which has grown into one of the world's largest and most recognizable fast-food brands.
