What were the first states to break away from Yugoslavia?

Slovenia and Croatia were the first states to break away from Yugoslavia primarily due to their desire for independence and the growing nationalist sentiments among their populations. Slovenia, being the most developed and economically advanced republic within Yugoslavia, saw an opportunity to assert its autonomy and pursue its own course. Croatia, on the other hand, had a significant Croatian nationalist movement that yearned for an independent state.
